PEI Peru, finalist – Peru for the SDGs 2026
The Global Eco-Industrial Parks Programme in Peru was selected as a finalist for the Peru for the SDGs 2026 Recognition in the Partnerships thematic area, which distinguishes strategic collaborations capable of mobilizing resources and generating impactful results.
The recognition is organized by Perú Sostenible together with KPMG, the United Nations System in Peru, and the newspaper El Comercio, and identifies projects by companies, ventures, and non-governmental organizations aligned with the 2030 Agenda. It evaluates submissions across five areas: People, Planet, Prosperity, Peace, and Partnerships.
Why Partnerships
Of the five areas, Partnerships is the one that best describes how the programme works. Eco-industrial parks are not built by a single actor: they require the public sector, park companies, communities, development banks, and international cooperation to align around a common standard. In Peru, the programme is implemented by UNIDO with the support of the Embassy of Switzerland, through its Economic Cooperation, and has the Ministry of Production (PRODUCE) as its national counterpart.
That architecture —a ministry adopting the regulatory framework, companies applying the performance assessment, and financial instruments supporting it— is precisely what the Partnerships area seeks to highlight.
Aligned with SDG 9
The programme contributes directly to SDG 9: Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure, and transversally to SDGs 8, 12, and 13, by promoting efficiency in water and energy use, industrial symbiosis, and emissions reduction within existing industrial parks.
Next steps
A high-level jury will evaluate the finalists and determine the winners. The results will be announced at the Awards Ceremony on September 24, 2026, at 5:30 p.m., as part of the Perú Sostenible Summit.
Being a finalist already serves a purpose: it places the eco-industrial parks model before the Peruvian business community that decides where to invest in sustainability.
